• Uniting the South African Construction Industry

The Construction Alliance South Africa (CASA) has announced the election of its new Executive Committee, with Mr Musa Shangase appointed as the organisation’s new President. Mr Shangase, with over 35 years of leadership experience in the construction and building materials sector, brings a strong vision for innovation, sustainability, professionalism and inclusivity within South Africa’s construction industry.In his acceptance, Mr Shangase expressed gratitude to the outgoing President, John Matthews, acknowledging his dedication and the strong foundation he laid for the Alliance.

He said: “The construction industry is far more than bricks and mortar. It is a catalyst for development, a creator of opportunities and a cornerstone of economic resilience. Together, we will advance infrastructure that drives economic growth and community development, champion eco-friendly solutions and build bridges between government, the private sector and civil society to accelerate transformation and equity.”

The new CASA Executive Committee comprises:

  • President: Musa Shangase
  • Vice-President: Chris Campbell
  • Convener: Vikashnee Harbhajan
  • Member Representatives: Sekadi Phayane – Shakhane (BEPs), Johan Heyneke (Manufacturers), Petra Mitchell (Suppliers), Roy Mnisi (Contractors)
  • Affiliate Representative: Richard Hoal
  • Immediate Past President: John Matthews

 

Mr Shangase further emphasised CASA’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and collaboration: “We do not merely construct buildings; we build opportunities, careers and lasting legacies. Our Alliance must remain a respected voice within the sector, a platform for constructive engagement, practical solutions and industry advancement. Together, we will build not only structures, but a construction sector in which every community benefits, every worker is valued, and every project reflects the highest standards of our profession.”

With the adoption of the CASA Constitution during the 2025 / 2026 period, CASA now operates under a formal governance framework designed to strengthen institutional oversight, enhance transparency, and ensure sustainable growth across the sector. Over the past year, CASA has continued to advocate for the industry through structured engagement with government stakeholders, strategic partnerships and initiatives aimed at driving transformation, infrastructure delivery and sector-wide collaboration. CASA looks forward to continued progress and industry transformation under the leadership of Mr. Shangase and the new Executive Committee.
