Construction Alliance South Africa (CASA) extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the individuals who have tragically passed away following a building collapse in Ormonde, south of Johannesburg, on 2 March 2026.

As an umbrella body representing a broad spectrum of stakeholders across the built environment, CASA reiterates that safety on a construction site is of paramount importance. The construction sector operates within a comprehensive regulatory framework designed to safeguard workers and the public and full compliance with health and safety legislation, building standards and professional oversight mechanisms is fundamental to responsible construction practice.
CASA plays a critical role in promoting ethical conduct, regulatory compliance, skills development and industry accountability. We work closely with member organisations, professional councils, regulatory authorities and government departments to strengthen governance standards, improve site safety culture and enhance oversight across the sector.
We note that the relevant authorities have commenced investigations into the cause of the collapse and it is essential that the facts be established to ensure accountability where required, to draw lessons for the industry and to prevent similar tragedies in future.
